Our Star of the Week for our last edition of 2016 is coastal businessman Kobus van Schalkwyk, who on Tuesday donated a house costing N$300 000 to 56-year-old wheelchair-bound Abraham Shitaleni and his family.
Shitaleni, who is completely paralysed, was living in deplorable conditions in a small shack with his five and five children family before van Schalkwyk came to their rescue. Van Schalkwyk, who owns Fabreca Constructions, told New Era he was appalled by the conditions the family was living in after he visited the family in Kuisebmond.
He then decided to assist the family by building a house at his own cost and by doing so restored the dignity of the family, a gesture that will be remembered for years to come.
Van Schalkwyk’s selflessness and desire to help a fellow Nambian in need and to make a meaningful contribution in the spirit of Harambee is exemplary and encourages all Namibians, regardless of race or colour, to emulate his heart-warming gesture.
