The inaugural Katutura Beer Festival, to be an annual event henceforth, expects 1000 beer lovers and promises a celebration of the best local and international beers and matchless festival experience. Simeon Aupokolo, one of the organisers from Events Namibia, says the idea of hosting the festival came to mind when him and his partner thought of something that people from Katutura can look forward to every year with excitement. “Well, my business partners and I had this small activation last year to promote Amstel Lite’s new look. After that activation we thought to ourselves, guys why can’t we have a Katutura beer festival as Katutura has no festival to call its own.”
Aupokolo says the event will see beers from various brand houses who are invited to showcase their products, giving consumers the opportunity for tastings, education on rheinheitsgebot and beer brewing. The objective is to cultivate responsible drinking among consumers while enhancing the experience associated with this humble product that so many love. “It’s not just another festival, it’s an experience of beer, good times with cultural diversification, enjoying good music with food. Come and learn about the brewing processes NBL uses and the wide selection of beers,” he invites, adding that beer will is not the only product on sale because they don’t want non-drinkers to feel left. There are various products to accommodate everyone.
Music bands, artists and DJs are part of the entertainment line-up for the crowd while getting a buzz out of favourite brews. Some of the artist expected to perform include Young T, Female Donkey, Gazza and KK with DJs Ambizzy, Cellos Deep and KFC, to mention just a few, on the decks. Beer tents are be available with the ultimate braai experience for the carnivores to indulge in. The event starts as from 12h00 until 22h00. Entrance fee is N$ 30 at Computicket and at the gate.
