A woman miraculously survived a freak incident just before lunchtime in Walvis Bay yesterday when a fully extended boom of a 200-ton crane tipped the crane nearly 90 degrees off the ground. The crane’s extended boom crashed over the three cars that were parked at the Walvis Bay Municipality’s public parking area. The woman was seated in one of the cars. She was treated for shock. No one was injured, but the vehicles were written off. The crane that belongs to Walvis Bay Tool and Plant Hire was lifting metal frames and other heavy items from an area near the car park. It is believed that the wet ground underneath the crane’s stabilisers gave way due to the heavy load being lifted. In the photos, the crane that tipped over and the damaged caused.
