Governor of Oshana Region Clemens Kashuupulwa has appealed to the youth and women to establish light recycling industries in order to create job opportunities and consequently improve living conditions at the town.
He made the remarks at a cleaning day hosted by Oshakati Town Council on Wednesday to clean the Oshoopala informal settlement.
The day was hosted under the theme ‘Oshakati Nashiyele’, meaning ‘Keep Oshakati clean’.
The governor appealed to Oshakati residents to maintain cleanliness, saying a clean town has the potential to attract investors and visitors and further boost development at the town.
Kashuupulwa commended Oshakati Town Council for their continued commitment to keeping the town clean.
He also applauded the community for taking time to partake in the cleaning campaign: “This is indeed a good sign of commitment and dedication to have a clean town and at the same time instil the culture of cleanliness among the inhabitants of this beautiful town.”
The governor said such events should serve as a reminder to uphold cleanliness and instil the culture of keeping local premises and the environment clean.
“It goes further without saying that cleanliness should not end with the launch of this annual campaign, but should be an integral part of our daily activities at our homes, workplaces, businesses and public spaces,” Governor Kashuupulwa advised.
