The Omusati police have arrested a 19-year-old for the alleged murder of a 13-year-old boy.
It is alleged the deceased, identified as Vitalis Sheehama from Ombwana village in Omusati Region, and another boy from the same homestead, were fighting when the 19-year-old suspect from the neighbour’s house intervened.
According to Omusati regional police spokesperson Warrant Officer Lineekela Shikongo, the information about the murder is not very clear, but it is believed the suspect stabbed the victim with a wire at the back of the neck.
The victim was rushed to Oshikuku Roman Catholic Hospital but was transferred to Oshakati Intermediate Hospital.
He died the following day.
According to Shikongo, the stabbing took place on Thursday around 18h00 at Ombwana village, and the boy died on Friday.
The incident was however only reported to the police on Saturday by members of the Women and Men Network.
Shikongo urged families to refrain from “sitting” on incidents of this nature by reporting them to the police on time.
The suspect was arrested on Saturday and is expected to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court today.
