In the battle for coastal supremacy, Erongo Region’s eternal rivals, Kuisebmund and Kolin Foundation Secondary Schools, both won their football matches against SI Gobs and West Side High Schools, thrashing their opponents 1-0 and 5-3, respectively.
Abraham Tjahikika netted the only goal as the fired-up Kuisebmund Secondary School clinched their FNB Classic Clashes victory in the competition at Omaruru on Friday.
SI Gobs fought desperately to stay in the match, but were frustrated by superb and breathtaking goalkeeping by the visitor’s shotstopper Helmuth Namaseb, who was deservedly voted the Vigo Hero, while Denzil Katjimune of Kuisebmund Secondary School walked away with the prestigious FNB Classic Clashes Man of the Match award.
In the other action, Kolin Foundation stunned fellow coastal opponents West Side High to win the FNB Classic Clashes coastal derby in the penalty shoot-out on a very windy Saturday morning at the mining town of Arandis.
The hosts demonstrated good football, with some accurate and good passes, but failed to open their account leaving the scoreboard goalless at the changeover. Tonla Gurirab of Kolin Foundation was crowned Vigo Hero, while Presley Ndumba of West Side was the deserved recipient of the FNB High School Classic Clashes Man of the Match award.
Upcoming matches have been slated for Friday and Saturday (July 15 and 16) with coastal rivals Swakopmund Secondary School and Mondesa confronting each other at 14h00 on Friday, while De Duine and Namib High School will square off at the Narravile sportsfield at 10h00 on Saturday, July 16.
