The quartet of Edugate Academy, Moria Private, Etosha and Otjiwarongo Secondary Schools met recently on the netball courts in Otjiwarongo and Tsumeb, where Edugate Academy defeated Moria by 51 baskets to 11, while Otjiwarongo Secondary School saw off a hapless Etosha by 48 goals to 8.
Hosts Edugate Academy were the first to register their name on the scoreboard and never looked back, with veteran Deorette van der Merwe slotted in her preferred position as goal defense doing an outstanding job in controlling the tempo of the match and dictating play from the back.
“These great qualities have contributed to her inclusion in the Under-19 team this year,” boasted corporate social responsibility manager of FNB Namibia Revonia Kahivere.
The prize for Vigo Hero of the Match and FNB Woman of the Match went to Monique Grobler from Edugate Academy. In the match between Otjiwarongo and Etosha – the final encounter in the netball division – Elizabeth Uiras of Etosha Secondary School played her heart out, despite her team being on the receiving end.
She was deservedly voted the FNB Woman of the Match, while Peter Kazwela of Etosha Secondary School was voted Vigo Hero for his leadership qualities as Head Boy.
