A twenty-five-year old man accused of killing his girlfriend of six years in Windhoek was arrested in Tsumeb late Tuesday afternoon.
The suspect fled the scene on Monday afternoon after killing his girlfriend at Otjomuise, in Beijing Street, where the couple lived together at the victim’s mother’s house. The police searched for the suspect by using a helicopter, and on foot, but were unsuccessful.
According to Khomas Regional Crime Investigation Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Sylvanus Nghishidimbwa, the suspect’s family at Tsumeb facilitated reporting and handing him over to the police.
The suspect was arrested on Tuesday at 17h45 and was detained at the police station in the town. Arrangements were being made for him to be brought to Windhoek where he will stand trial for murder.
Nghishidimbwa said the suspect will possibly appear today in the Katututra Magistrate’s Court.
The suspect allegedly killed his girlfriend by seemingly strangling her with electric wire, and stabbed her several times with a knife. It is alleged the victim, a security guard Janet !Haoses, was also bludgeoned with a hammer.
!Haoses allegedly wanted to end the intimate relationship with her boyfriend. According to a close relative, it is suspected that the man was jealous and did not take kindly when the victim said she wanted to end their relationship.
