A 20-year-old woman was killed yesterday at Otjomuise – allegedly by her boyfriend of six years, who seemingly strangled her with electric wire and stabbed her several times. The victim was identified as Janet Haoes.
The murder victim’s legs were also tied when eyewitnesses arrived at the scene, while others alleged she was also hit with a hammer in an incident that has shocked residents in Beijing Street. The victim, who worked for a local security company, allegedly wanted to end the intimate relationship with her boyfriend, who was still at large at the time of going to print last night.
The 25-year-old man, who worked for a local cleaning company, allegedly jumped the fence of the house at which the incident took place and ran away. The police were in hot pursuit of him last night.
The incident happened at the house of the victim’s mother, where the lovebirds lived. They had no children, relatives said. It is suspected that the suspect was jealous and did not take kindly to their relationship being ended.
“The scene is bloody and ugly,” a police officer told New Era in confidence. It is suspected that the alleged killer drank a bleach detergent in an apparent attempt to commit suicide and was seen vomiting profusely before he ran away.
