The problem I have with the majority of the previous recipients of this prestigious awards is that the winners go quiet.
It’s as if they believe they do not have to put in the hours any more. There is a very important part of this industry. This part is called RELEVANCE. If one does not put in work after winnings, that factor will not apply to your brand. The work actually starts after winnings. I believe that it is a slap in the face of that sales person that worked around the clock to get that category a sponsor that you won and now you just go quiet after winning that category. It is a slap in the face of the rest of the entertainers who were nominated in that category if you win and then you just go quiet.
It is an insult to the judges who believed that you deserved that award after hectic deliberations when you go quiet after being awarded. Crucially, it is an insult to your fans. Especially if it was a voting category. I challenge the 2016 NAMA recipients to do something over the next 12 months with their titles. Do something dammit. Like whati you aski?! Don’t ask me! You were seemingly the best amongst others in your category mos? You were THEE one mos? Now, as THEE one…tap into your brain for innovation and grid!
Categories whose winners are critical to what I am saying are the winners of Best Male Artist of the Year(Big Ben); Best Female Artist of the Year(Chikune); Best Collaboration(Paradox); Best Radio Dj of the Year(Miss B); Best Live Performance of the Year(Lize Ehlers) and Entertainment Journalist of the year(Rinelda Mouton).
Big Ben was quoted on Good Morning Namibia after his winnings: “This award means that I must not be selfish in pushing the next entertainer”. Which is exactly the role of Chikune and Big Ben for the next 12 months. The two of them need to be at the forefront of advocating for the better recognition and respect for arts in the country.
