This year’s edition of the popular Omaruru Spar Cycle Challenge – one of the country’s leading cycling competitions – was officially launched in the capital yesterday.
As usual, the Spar Cycle Challenge is slated for the town of Omaruru this Saturday and according to the chief organiser of the event, Berthold Karumendu, they anticipate a much bigger and better event as more than 300 participants are expected to compete.
During yesterday’s press conference, where Omaruru Spar again reaffirmed their commitment towards the race with a N$45 000 sponsorship and FNB Namibia with N$20 000, Karumendu heaped praise on both sponsors for being part of the journey and for ensuring that the race grows from strength to strength through their timely sponsorships.
Karumendu said participants would compete in the Open, Elite, Junior, Veterans and Masters, Ladies and Fun Ride categories. Winners in the various categories are guaranteed to walk away with some cool prize monies, with the winners in the Elite, Veterans, Masters and Ladies categories set to take home N$3 000 each, while the 2nd and 3rd placed finishers are guaranteed N$2 000 and N$1 000 each, respectively.
In the Open and Junior categories, the 1st placed finishers will pocket N$750 each and the 2nd and 3rd placed finishers will take home N$500 and N$250 each across the board.
