According to reports from Thailand, Brave Warriors striker Sadney Urikhob’s former Thai club Saraburi FC has officially forfeited its Thailand Premier League (TPL) status, with BEC Tero Sasana FC now taking their place in the TPL.
The Bangkok Post recently reported that the TPL hierarchy took the decision after Saraburi had earlier this year informed the league authority about its plans to quit the 18-team league due to persistent financial crises.
“It was decided in the TPL executive committee meeting that since Saraburi FC will not have a team to participate in the 2016 season, BEC Tero Sasana will take their place in the TPL,” TPL lawyer Narinpong Jinapak was quoted by the Bangkok Post as saying.
BEC Tero Sasana had been relegated to the second-tier League One after finishing 16th in the 2015 TPL season in December last year.
Jinapak explained: “BEC Tero Sasana have been reinstated in the TPL because they were the best team among the three relegated clubs.”
Commenting on Saraburi’s future, Jinapak said: “If they want to come back and play, they would have to start from the regional league, according to the TPL regulations. “BEC Tero Sasana will take their place in the TPL and there will be no play-offs among the relegated teams.” – Additional source: Bangkok Post
