MTC Premiership table-toppers Tigers Football Club yesterday officially unveiled striker Aubrey Amseb as the club’s latest acquisition, signing the 22-year old front man from relegated Rebels on a two and a half year contract.
Amseb was on loan at defending champions African Stars where he had spent the entire first round of the league.
The young enterprising striker quickly rose to stardom when he joined Stars at the beginning of the current term, playing a sterling role for Stars in the Dr Hage Geingob Cup and equally in the Standard Bank Super Cup last year.
He also featured in all the junior national teams and last year received his second call-up to the Brave Warriors during last year’s Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
As for the weekend fixtures against Orlando Pirates and African Stars, Tigers veteran mentor Brian Isaacs said he will use his experience to help Tigers win its first Namibia Premier League (NPL) title since independence in 1990.
Tigers are currently top of the log with 41 points from 17 games played so far. The NPL consists of 16 football teams, and a team is required to play 30 games per season.
Speaking during a media conference in the capital earlier this week, Isaacs said Tigers are currently in top form and he might help them win the most prestigious trophy that is currently missing from the club’s trophy cabinet.
“My objective at the moment is not to lose a single game this season, and any team that wants to beat us must come with all their artillery because we are going to shoot down whoever comes our way and stop us from winning the league,” he said.
Isaacs, a highly respected mentor of note, won the league four times in a row with Black Africa, making the club the only football team in Namibia to have lifted the league title nine times since the start of the Namibia National Soccer League in 1985. – Additional reporting: Nampa
