Mobile Telecommunications Company (MTC) on Tuesday donated a consignment of safety equipment worth N$140 000 to the Namibian Police Traffic department in the Erongo Region in aid of the national road safety campaign at the Swakopmund roadblock.
The donation includes various traffic implements, such as road-cones, reflector jackets, direction signs and high beam torches for use by traffic officers on night patrol, especially over the festive season.
According to Joseph Mundjindi, the manager of sponsorship and promotions at MTC, the donation will come in handy for traffic officers at this time of year.
“As usual, around this time our national roads will be congested and it is thus important that we support Nampol’s traffic division, especially in Erongo, to create visibility and enhance public awareness on the road,” he said.
He said they have been following closely the worrying statistics and media reports pertaining to Namibia’s road safety record and want to contribute through this kind of partnership. “It gives us great pleasure to commit our support to the cause of road safety. Owing to the detrimental nature of road carnage, MTC’s commitment and ideal is to one day see that there are zero fatalities on our roads, hence our pledge towards that goal,” he said.
