Colin Wang Yuqing of the Hochland Acers Table Tennis Club clinched the 4th annually held Rogl Souvenirs Table Tennis Singles A-League title on Friday at the Holy Cross Convent Primary School in the heart of Windhoek.
With the top four seniors of the final league in action, forty-five year old Wang, a Chinese,
got off to a good start as he defeated his club mate Reinhardt Stanley in the semi-final,
taking him to the final.
He faced SKW TT Club’s Johann Malan, who just narrowly edged out Heiko Fleidl (SKW TT Club) in a match that could have gone either way.
Malan, an offensive top-spinning player, was unable to defeat Wang (a pen hold close-
table fast attacking player) who took top honours and in the process won the
grand prize of N$3 000.
Heiko Fleidl received a bonus of N$1 500 for finishing overall top of the Rogl Souvenirs
Singles A-League standings at the end of the league stage. The previous winners of this prestigious trophy (a 400mm diameter beautifully engraved kalabash) were Ramon Hansen (2012), Bjorn Wasielke (2013) and Bjorn Wasielke (2014).
The Thema Trading Enterprises B-League finals were dominated by two of the country’s
top upcoming development players. Young Yannick Bohn (DHPS Windhoek) won his semi-final against Bregida George (Eliminators Club & 2014 defending Singles B-League champion), while Patrick Beggs (DHPS Windhoek), who has been a standout junior throughout the year, won the second semi-final against Richard Snyders (RSN Rookies), who only started playing table tennis at the beginning of the year. In the
final, Bohn triumphed over Beggs with four games to one to win his first league title.
