Swapo Party member Herman /Honeb was sworn in as the new mayor of Henties Bay during an extraordinary ceremony held at the town yesterday.
/Honeb, who is the is the director of Hanganeni Artisanal Fishing Association in Henties Bay, replaces Aila Haifiku who will now serve as a member of the management committee.
Another member of the Swapo Party, Renier Gomachab, will serve as an ordinary member.
Democratic Turnhalle Alliance (DTA) member Anna Hamutenya was sworn in as the deputy mayor, while Michael Skini from the United Democratic Front retained his position as the chairperson of the management committee.
DTA party member Belinda Aubes will also serve as a member of the management committee, while Gustav Dlamini of the Henties Bay Association was elected as an ordinary member of the council.
Swapo bagged three seats during the regional and local authority elections when the party received 702 votes, while the UDF got two seats from their 357 votes and the Henties Bay Civic Association scooped one seat from their 266 votes.
Haufiku called for teamwork among her fellow councillors to address the challenges facing the town’s residents such as a housing shortage and unemployment.
The newly elected members during their swearing-in ceremony said that they would stand united against a common goal which is to develop Henties Bay and address issues such as unemployment, poverty eradication and education at the town.
Meanwhile, the new councillors for Walvis Bay as well as the new Erongo Region councillors will be sworn in on Friday.
