Zimbabwean Sungura musician, Hosiah Chipanga better known as ‘Shingulu Shaoma’ is performing at the Miss Otjiwarongo beauty pageant tonight. The Sungura maestro arrives in Namibia today after being sidelined by some promoters in his native Zimbabwe, where some of his songs ‘blacklisted’ by some radio stations, who saw his music as politically incorrect.
With a career spanning over three decades, Chipanga has recorded over ten Albums, with more than ten hits in Southern Africa. The Gushungo Song and the Kwacha Kwacha hit maker is popular in bars around the country, especially in the northern Namibia and his album has been selling well in Namibia , Botswana and South Africa. Miss Otjiwarongo pageant is also featuring Otjiwarongo Namibian Annual Music Awards (NAMAs) winner, Kalux, and others.
The pageant Organising Director, Daniel Nyaungwa, of MSC Hotel Otjiwarongo, where the pageant is held says: “Miss Otjiwarongo winner will work hard to promote the plight of the vulnerable and the less privileged communities in the town, and the performance of one of the Sungura greats ‘Shingulu Shaoma’ at the event will go down as the best ever Otjiwarongo live performance, we are advising everyone not to miss this one”
Tickets to Miss Otjiwarongo Beauty Pageant are N$100 in advance and N$130 at the gate. For some who are travelling from far places like Windhoek, hotel accommodation is available. The event will start at 19h00 until late at MSC Hotel Otjiwarongo (Monitronics). tonight at the MSC Hotel.
