Preparations for this year’s Bank Windhoek Summer Festival, slated for the coast next month, are well on track.
For the month of December, holidaymakers to Swakopmund and Henties Bay will be treated to a variety of art productions and sports events to be hosted and supported by Bank Windhoek.
The annual Summer Festival gets underway on December 5 with The Mascato Coastal Youth Choir performing their end-of-year concert.
The Playmakers, under the artistic directorship of Sandy Rudd, will perform Shakespeare in the (Car) Park from December 10 to 12 at various locations in Swakopmund.
From December 11 to 20, the Swakopmunder Musikwoche will commemorate its 50th anniversary, while Professor Aldo Behrens’ acclaimed musical ‘A Whale in Goreangab, Taking Corruption to Court’, will be performed a week later.
On December 22, well-known Afrikaans music icon, Randall Wicomb, who was part of various musical productions of the Bank Windhoek Arts Festival since 2010, will launch his biography, Kleur, authored by Amos van der Merwe, at Hotel Zum Keiser in Swakopmund.
The gathering will host the Bank Windhoek Kalahari Ensemble, and Randall will sing some of his favourite songs.
In a partnership between Bank Windhoek and Gondwana Collection Namibia, Nicole Grnert’s latest book ‘Namibia – Geological Wonderland: A geological journey’, will be launched at the recently opened The Delight, on December 11.
From December 27 to 30, the Christmas musical “Pontius Who?” will be performed at the Namib Primary School (NPS) Kulturaula.
This musical is an immensely intriguing and alternative understanding of the story of Jesus Christ – from the perspective of Pontius Pilate, a politician, a strategist, a colonialist, a Roman governor, a loving husband and a sensitive human being, to boot.
The Namibia Chess Federation will be hosting the Kehat Beukes Memorial Chess tournament on December 20 – 21, at the Swakopmund Hotel and Entertainment Centre.
The tourney is hosted in December with the aim of attracting both international travellers and the best of local chess players.
As part of the Summer Festival, the Bank Windhoek Senior Open Swakopmund Golf Day will take place on December 10 – 11, at the Rossmund Golf Course while the Bank Windhoek Henties Bay Open Golf Day takes place on the 23rd. at the 36-hole course.
