Newmed in Ongwediva has suspended eight of its employees for allegedly defrauding the company of N$181 747.
Police public relations officer in Oshana Constable Frieda Shikole confirmed that a fraud case has been registered with the Ongwediva Police, but no arrests have yet been made in connection with the case. Investigations into the matter continue, she said.
Shikole was not in a position to clarify during which period the fraud was committed, or what methods were used, on the grounds that revealing the details could hamper the ongoing investigation.
Unconfirmed reports, however, have it that the suspended employees forged customers’ receipts, by including items not requested by the clients. It is understood they removed the items before they delivering the clients’ orders in order to resell the goods elsewhere.
Newmed is a wholesale outlet that specialises in supplying pharmaceutical and veterinary medicine, vaccines, disposables and other equipment to pharmacies and hospitals.
