It was a night full of surprises at the NamPower Convention Centre on Friday when one of Namibia’s youngest international fashion models, Meriam Kaxuxwena, unveiled her first bikini collection, known as MK Swimwear.
She showcased four pairs of bikinis – the Brazilian collection – with bright and lively colours and under the themes: ‘African, Variety and Black Avante Garde.’ Hundreds of fashion lovers attended the show.
Meriam’s designs are universally flattering and always sophisticated, with details that add that flirty and girly feel. Josy and Paul Da Prince were the hosts of the night and kept the crowd in an upbeat mood with their cheerful voices and commentary.
Top Namibian artists Exit and Sally kept the crowd entertained and did not disappoint when it came to the performances. Up to 40 international and local models participated in the show, showcasing different designs of MK Swimwear designed for various body shaese.
The last collection was a masterpiece and highlight of the collection, available only in black. Apart from the bikinis, Meriam also showcased a male hotpants collection.
She says although she has been promoting the show for the past four months, she didn’t expect so many people to turn up. She advised the guests to start supporting the local fashion industry.
“Modeling is a career and a business. It’s about time we start promoting the fashion industry in Namibia and it’s about time we take it seriously. We we cannot all be doctors and lawyers,” Meriam said. She promised another massive fashion show early next year.
