MTC Premiership new boys Young Chiefs maximized home ground advantage to record comprehensive back-to-back wins over fellow strugglers Citizens and Mighty Gunners respectively in last weekend’s action.
Tura Magic came out of their recent slumber collecting a valuable four points courtesy of a humiliating 5-0 defeat of basement dwellers Flamingoes in a one-sided match at the Sam Nujoma Stadium yesterday. The victory for the Magicians came short on the heels of Saturday’s courageous goalless draw against Black Africa.
Rounds ten and eleven of the highly competitive MTC Premiership produced goals galore with Ronnie Kanalelo’s fast-improved Unam and Young Chiefs emerging the chief beneficiaries.
Starting the weekend in 6th position on 12 points, Ronnie Kanalelo’s fired-up students started the riot with a comprehensive 6-1 hammering of league rookies Flamingoes at home on Saturday – leaving the league’s new boys rooted to the bottom of the bloated 16-team league and still searching for a first win in their debut season after 12 rounds of matches.
In yesterday’s other action, the Clever Boys toppled incumbent league champions African Stars from 3rd place. Striker Upangisa Ujaha’s strike in the referee’s optional time sunk title-chasing BA after a goalless first half with the match destined for a stalemate.
The result left the wounded BA two points adrift of log leaders Tigers but the latter enjoys the luxury of having two matches in hand over their title rivals. Elsewhere, Citizens recorded a rare away win – seeing off hosts Rundu Chiefs by 2 goals to 1 while MTC Premiership rookies Young Chiefs easily waltzed past the visibly out of sorts visiting Citizens, scoring three unanswered goals at the Uukwangula stadium, outside Oshakati, on Saturday.
League returnees Rundu Chiefs saw off Mighty Gunners 3-2 in a thrilling five-goal tightly contested northern derby at the Rundu stadium on Saturday, to complete a high-scoring day that amassed an astonishing 15-goal tally in 270 minutes of action.
Record time champions Black Africa lost further ground to log leaders Tigers when Woody Jacobs’ title-chasing outfit was held to a goalless stalemate by hoodoo team Tura Magic at the Sam Nujoma stadium.
