A man appeared in the Katutura Magistrate’s Court on Monday for allegedly stealing a laptop from a magistrate’s office last Thursday.

Reinhold Itembu, 29, had just appeared in court, and ironically was free on bail at the time he allegedly snatched a laptop from Magistrate Elina Nandago’s office.

“The magistrate was shaking [with fury]”, sources close to the investigations informed New Era.
After his court appearance he allegedly went to the civil department and asked where the office of Prosecutor Anthony Wilson is. It appears he was lying and went instead to Nandago’s office and found a lady with a speech impairment cleaning Nandago’s office, court sources said.

He then allegedly informed the cleaning lady that Nandago had sent him to fetch the laptop and left with it. “We suspected it was him. We went to see the camera footage and the footage confirmed it was him,” sources told New Era.

Itembu was allegedly found with the laptop at Single Quarters in Katutura. The laptop was reportedly in the car of his friend. He was arrested by Inspector Tibinyane Ianatius and Constable Johannes Hihepa on Thursday and appeared in court to face a charge of theft.

He was denied bail and the matter will proceed on December 9.
Magistrate Hambeleleni Heita presided, while Granny Paulus represented the State.

“Prosecutors always decline to prosecute. Now he taught them a lesson,” a source at court said. Another magistrate’s laptop was also stolen at the same court and it is not yet clear if it has been recovered. As a result, surveillance cameras have now been installed at the court.
