SWAKARA auction
All pelts were sold during the SWAKARA auction on September 25, 2015 in Copenhagen; 39 821 black, 11 545 white, 3 400 grey, 644 brown, 2525 spotted and 1 290 diverse pelts. The average price was N$428,58 which was a decrease of 7,08% on the April 2015 price of N$461,23. The highest price paid for a white pelt was N$1 489,25 and for a black pelt N$1 820,19. The top Namibian producer was Karasberge Karakoelstoet, who sold 332 pelts at an average price of N$781,69. The top South African producer was Mr Koos Kotze of Groblershoop who sold 581 pelts at an average price of N$599,56.

Game Meat Industry discussion session
A discussion session pertaining to the guidelines, rules and challenges of the Game Meat Industry will be held on October 21, 2015 at the Nampower Convention Centre, Windhoek, at 08h00.  Speakers include inter alia Prof Louw Hoffman (US), Dr Yvonne Hemberger (DVS) and Dr Diana van Schalkwyk (FSC). Namib Mills Information days – mark the dates on your calender! The annual information days of Namib Mills takes place on Ocfober 26 and 27 October on Summerdown and Mariental respectively. Speakers for these days:
• Prof. Chris Auret from Wits University – Economic outlook for maize and wheat.
• Mr. Dedrik Pretorius, an agricultural expert from Omnia Nutriology – The possibilities for Soya as an alternative crop under rotational cropping.

Producers are en-couraged to attend this day. Producers from Tsumeb, Grootfontein and Otavi should arrange for lifts of at least 2 or more persons per vehicle and make use of the APA travel allowance. This should however be coordinated with the regional representative.

FA and other news
Braunvieh Namibia is offering a training and judging course on October 5 & 6 at 07h30 in the Witvlei vicinity. The course is offered by Martin Seyfferdt and the costs are N$800 per person whereby a light luncheon and the course material is included. The Livestock Producers Organisation (LPO)
Congress will be held on October 6 & 7 and the Namibia Agricultural Union (NAU) Congress on October 7 & 8, at the Safari Hotel, Windhoek. The theme of both congresses is “Smart Farming”. The official opening of the NAU Congress will be a breakfast this year which is held on October 8 from 07h30 – 10h00 at the Acacia Restaurant, Safari Hotel.

Blumfelde FA is hosting a farmer day/sports day on October 10 at the FA hall. Teams must consist of 6 members and there will be a lot of fun and big prizes. The treasure hunt cycle tour starts at 08h00, the sport at 10h00 and the farmer sport at 15h00. There will be 10 different sport activities which will last 5 minutes each. The day will conclude with a steak braai and dance with Joggie van Schalkwyk. Registration for the braai and dance is N$100 for adults and N$50 for children. The SWAKARA Industry Forum is hosting its Annual General Meeting on October 20 at 0h:30 at the Canyon Hotel, Keetmanshoop, Guest speakers are inter alia Mr Kenneth Loberg of Copenhagen Fur and Mr Mark Boyle of the International Fur Federation.
