College of the Art (COTA) visual artist, Petrus Amuthenu, first solo exhibition, Urban Style/Kasi Style, opens on Monday at Restaurant La bonne Table at the Franco Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC).
The exhibition features Petrus’ surrealist and socially critical drawings and paintings on life in Katutura and his outlook on life. He describes his work as dark and mysterious at times but a potpourri of versatile images that welcome the viewer to his world. “I believe I been gifted from birth but only started taking it serious in 2001. My first time going solo means a lot to me, I finally think I’m archiving something and getting more respect from my fans and art lovers. So this is a dream come true, I’m so excited and can’t wait for the opening,” says Petrus.
In his colourful paintings, he uses ink, watercolours, markers and cardboard prints on papers, saying he was trained very well by Ndasuunje Papa Shikongeni who spearheaded the cardboard print art form in Namibia. The exhibition will run until October 9.
