The woman, who stabbed and killed a man at Okahandja Park informal settlement last Friday afternoon, said she stabbed the man because he touched her private parts.

The accused, Trudie Kasese, 26, made her appearance before the Katutura Magistrates Court yesterday morning in connection with the murder charges.

She allegedly stabbed one Elton Danser Vries, 34, with a knife in the neck. Paramedics, who rushed to attend to the scene of the emergency, pronounced Vries dead at the scene. When informed of her legal rights through an interpreter in Afrikaans, Kasese said she would defend herself.

Magistrate Vanessa Stanley said the State opposes the granting of bail to the suspect on account of the seriousness of the case. Stanley said Kasese has the right though, to lodge a formal bail application.

According to Namibian police spokesperson, Inspector Slogan Matheus the accused and the deceased were not in any relationship.

Matheus said the incident apparently happened in the street, as the accused was walking down the road and found Vries sitting with his brother at a certain house. What happened during the altercation that followed is not yet known.

Magistrate Stanley postponed the case to October 8 for further police investigations.
