A relatively youthful 13-member Brave Warriors squad jetted out of the country yesterday en route to South Africa for the 2015 edition of the annual COSAFA Cup to be held in Maruleng, near Rustenburg, South Africa.

The Namibians open their assault in the two-week regional tourney with a date against the Seychelles on the 17th of this month.

The entire travelling entourage, including the technical staff led by former Black Hawks FC striker Oscar Mulonda as head of delegation, was given a rousing send off by the President of the Namibia Football Association (NFA) Frans Mbidi during a special function in Windhoek yesterday.
In his send-off message, Mbidi reminded the players of their responsibilities as Namibian ambassadors. “When you put that jersey over your head, you are not only representing the national football team, you must bear in mind that you are representing the Namibian President and every individual of our society.”

The Namibian football supremo also emphasized the importance of team play, overall performance and most importantly, discipline on and off the field. He urged the players to refrain from indulging in unbecoming behaviour.

“Ideally, this tourney will create the required platform for you as footballers to showcase your God-given talent and in the process market yourself to the outside world. I’m certain there will be talent scouts waiting to pounce like vultures, a practice that will result in long-term incentives and financial rewards.”

Mbidi discouraged players from the sickening habit of always putting money ahead of national duty instead of concentrating their energy on playing football.

“In Namibia, we have a different culture, we don’t pay for services before delivery, so go out there and get the job done and rewards will follow afterwards,” concluded Mbidi before expressing confidence in the team’s ability to fashion decent results in the regional tourney.

Meanwhile, Ghanaian-based midfielder Petrus Shitembi has already joined the squad while Stigga Ketjijere, Virgil Vries, Ballack Somaeb, Henrico Botes, Dudes Mwedihanga and the Golden Arrows trio of Max ‘Slimkat’ Mbaeva, Deon Hotto and Chris Katjiukua will join the rest of the squad in Johannesburg.
