OKAHANDJA- A 58-year-old man on Friday shared with New Era how he deposited money into the account of the Municipality of Okahandja two years ago for a plot in Nau-Aib location but has not received the piece of land to date.
Gottlieb Haufiku said he applied for a plot, Erf 655 in Nau-Aib, through the municipality of Okahandja, as he was told he could apply for it.
Haufiku explained that his employer deposited N$24 343 into the municipality’s account for the plot.
He further explained that they gave him a different form, which was for paying for water.
“When I finished with that I found that they changed that they cannot proceed with the agreement to give me the plot because they noticed that “we were two people who applied for the same piece of land and they gave it to the other person because he deposited the money first,” narrated Haufiku.
Haufiku explained that the person did not deposit the entire amount. “I had deposited the entire money (N$24 343). I asked back for my money because they said they will not give me the plot. They later said that I should get the piece of land because I finished paying the entire amount,” he said.
When he asked for documents indicating the plot had been transferred into his name, Haufiku said the municipality refused to give him anything.
“Until today they did not give my money back or the plot,” said Haufiku, adding that the matter is now in the hands of the lawyers.
“I feel very bad because I am in need of land. I am old now and I do not have land of my own. My employer was supposed to build me a house while I’m still employed. Now it looks like by the time I become a pensioner I won’t have land. They could have even just looked for me another plot somewhere else considering that I already paid the money,” said Haufiku.
Efforts to get comment from the Municipality of Okahandja proved futile by the set deadline yesterday afternoon, as their phones rang unanswered.
