Man denied bail for violating minor

WINDHOEK – A man was denied bail for allegedly fondling a five-year girl’s private parts in Mondesa, Swakopmund, last week.
Paulus Mweenda, 36, faces a charge of rape. He appeared in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

He allegedly fondled the girl’s genitals while masturbating and releasing sperm onto her body.
The incident took place at the accused’s house in Mondesa last weekend.

Mweenda allegedly lured the child into his room to watch television. He then allegedly undressed her, stripped himself naked and proceeded with the act.

Magistrate Nelao Brown heard the case in the Swakopmund Magistrate’s Court on Monday, while Tanya Jacobie represented the State.
Mweenda was remanded in custody pending further police investigations into the matter, and to allow him to prepare for legal representation.

His case will be heard again on March 11, 2015.
Meanwhile, police have recorded three suicides across the country.

Last Thursday, at Shaghaya village in the Kavango East Region, Haingura Manfred Hamushira (54) committed suicide. He allegedly hanged himself from a tree with piece of wire. No suicide note was found. His next of kin have been informed.

Another suicide occurred at Ondjaba village in Etayi in Oshikuku where Flavianus Nkalikokule hanged himself from a Mopani tree in the fields using fresh palm tree leaves. Relatives discovered his body hanging from the tree on the same day. He did not leave a suicide note.

Yet another suicide occurred in the Khomas Region when Piet Phage, 23, allegedly hanged himself with a strap/leash inside an outside bathroom. His mother discovered his body hanging from the shower arm.

A piece of paper was found inside one of his pockets with a rough sketch of the house and with the words “I love mom Maria”. The next of kin have been notified about the tragedy.
