OKALONGO – The Swapo Party Pioneers Movement (SPPM) which is being groomed to defend party ideologies elected its first ever National Executive Committee (NEC) over the weekend.

Iyaloo Shiimi from Oshana Region will chair the first NEC of the SPPM as its secretary, deputised by Peinge Shilamba from Oshikoto.

The congress was attended by young people between the ages of six and 18.

SPPM adopted ten resolutions with one of the resolutions calling for the revival of the movement’s camps in the country, as was the case before independence.

The SPPM also requested its mother body to ensure equal representation of gender as adopted by cabinet.

The congress further resolved to work towards fulfilling the duties of the organisation, which include academic performance, political vigilance and child activism.

The first ever congress since independence strongly condemned the abuse of alcohol and drugs among the youth.

Addressing the new SPPM NEC, the secretary of the Swapo Party Youth League (SPYL) Elijah Ngurare urged the pioneers to study hard.

Governor of Oshikoto, Penda ya Ndakola read the prime minister and the vice-president of Swapo, Dr Hage Geingob’s speech in which he commended Ngurare and the NEC, the Executive and Central Committee of the SPYL for spearheading the SPPM.

“It is the youth that will spearhead the next phase of the struggle. It is from amongst you that new heroes and leaders will emerge who will be tasked with creating a vibrant, united and economically prosperous society. Young people such as you have a big role to play in terms of mobilising your peers and communities towards social transformation. You will be the bearers of the baton that is going to be passed on to you so that you can continue our nation’s drive towards Vision 2030,” he stated.

Geingob said youth in the Swapo Party are considered as assets of the country and by participating in the SPPM children will develop leadership skills that will ensure the party is regenerated through the young pioneers.
