Life Fighters Sink Further Down

There seems to be just no life for former MTC Namibia Premiership campaigners OFC Life Fighters.

The Otjiwarongo-based outfit find themselves a tier down after the once darlings of northern football finished bottom in the Northern Stream Division One League, a position that means Fighters will have no further business in this particular league when action resumes during the 2008/2009 season.

Fighters could only collect a paltry 13 points out of a possible 60 with four wins and a single draw, while they suffered the most number of defeats in the eleven-team league after the inevitable withdrawal of fellow strugglers Robber Chanties halfway through the league activities.

Former Premiership champions Chief Santos won the closely contested title race on a superior goal average after finishing in joint first place with United Stars of Rundu on 43 points each – leaving Golden Bees, Cuca Tops, Rundu Chiefs, Nambula United, Touch & Go and Benfica to pick up the pieces in that order.

Santos return to topflight football after an absence of three seasons while Fighters will have to be content with life in the country’s third tier division.

Meanwhile, Mariental-based outfit Flying Eagles’ wings have been severely cut down to size by the country’s football authorities following the club’s expulsion from all football related activities under the auspices of the Namibian Football Association (NFA).

Eagles failed to fulfill its league obligations during the second round of the Southern Stream First Division League season – thus propelling the league to seek refuge in the statutes that empowered the league to expel any team failing to honour three consecutive league fixtures in the absence of a valid excuse.

Hotspurs beat their fellow competitors hands down for the coveted Southern Stream Division One league crown. The Sowetans ended the season on a high after finishing seven points clear of closest challengers Monitronic College.
