Oshakati Town Council has suspended an employee following allegations he stole food meant for flood victims in the Oshana Region.
Oshakati Town Council Chief Executive Officer John Nghihepa confirmed to New Era yesterday that the gentleman was suspended regarding the theft allegation.
But the council has not laid any charges with the police against the suspect yet.
The suspect was assigned to work with matters related to flood victims, in the council’s administration department.
Nghihepa said the council would only lay charges after an internal investigation is carried out and they were busy investigating to get to the bottom of the matter by yesterday.
It’s alleged that instead of administering the food for flood victims the suspect took food for his family.
He was suspended on Tuesday.
According to a source, the suspect took food and other items from Ongwediva Trade Fair where the flood victims’ items are stored.
He took the food after signing for it under the pretence that he would take it to the flood victims at Oshakati Independence Stadium.
Food victims in Oshana Region are increasing by the day, a situation that prompted the council to call for assistance from individuals and business people to help with whatever.
Companies and individuals are coming forward donating much needed items to the flood victims, especially food.
