A 24-year-old employee of OK Grocer in Opuwo, Daniel Nyambe alias DJ Mix, was sentenced to a four-year imprisonment term after he pleaded guilty to a charge of theft on Monday this week.
One year was suspended on condition that he does not repeat the same offence again.
A charge was laid after Nyambe stole N$72 300 from the store’s safe and dug a small hole in the mountain near one of the townships where he hid his loot.
The incident happened on Saturday last week.
His actions were however captured by the cameras in the store and the video footage was shown to the police, who immediately interrogated him and later he confessed and took the police to the scene where he had hidden the money.
All the money has since been recovered.
Opuwo magistrate Sunsley Zisengwe delivered the verdict while Phieneaf Phofu represented the State.
Nyambe was employed as a supervisor.
