Governor of the Omusati Region, Sackey Kayone, has appealed to the Government to declare the flood situation affecting the northern regions a national disaster rather than a mere emergency.
Presenting his region’s report to a panel of stakeholders from the northern regions, who were also joined by a delegation from the Office of the Prime Minister (OPM), Kayone said looking at the magnitude of problems caused by the current floods, resources should be mobilised in order to empower the affected regions adequately and enable them to cope.
The governor highlighted the floods in Omusati, which he said have caused serious damage to people, property and animals. A lot of huts and grain storages have collapsed; clothes, schoolbooks and other valuable items have been destroyed by water.
