A CRISIS, a storm in a teacup, a challenge – call it what you may. There is no doubt that education in Namibia is at the crossroads. There is more to the problems bedevilling this sector than meets the naked eye.
One of the causes of the current impasse in education is denial. There is a growing tendency among technocrats and policymakers to conveniently downplay the fundamental failures of the education system lest this reflects poorly on them, hence their positions.
It is this denial that has allowed the problems of education to fester for so long with little remedies. For many years now, our schools have been graduating pupils and learners in their thousands that can neither be absorbed in the job market nor tertiary institutions.
