The Oshana regional emergency management committee has found alternative accommodation for people displaced by floods.
The flood victims are currently sheltered at the Ongwediva Trade Fair grounds and the Oshakati Independence Stadium.
After a series of meetings, it was decided that the Oshakati Town Council should identify a suitable place to accommodate the flood victims.
A two-hectare plot near Namibia Breweries in Oshakati was found suitable to house the 858 people displaced by floods following heavy rains in Angola and northern Namibia.
Ongwediva Town Council Corporate Communication Manager, Andreas Uutoni, told New Era on Tuesday that Cabinet has approved funds for flood victims.
Some of the funds will contribute towards upgrading the facilities at the newly identified site. The committee will ensure that the centre has basic necessities such as potable water, a kitchen, a storeroom and enough tents to cater for all the flood victims.
According to Uutoni, relocation to the new site is expected by the middle of next month.
The relocation should be done before mid-March because one of the halls at the Ongwediva Trade Centre is booked for an event to host 2??????’??
