A parallel probe launched by the Ministry of Labour and Social Welfare intended to get to the bottom of last year’s fatal train crash that also left one person with broken ribs and serious head injuries, may result in TransNamib being dragged to court.
The ministry’s probe is being run side-by-side with the one already commissioned by the parastatal shortly after the crash that occurred in the vicinity of Heroes’ Acre. During the crash Sydney Bessel Coetzee was fatally wounded while George Sankandi suffered serious injuries.
Strangely though the Social Security Commission (SSC), to which all employees contribute N$27.50 for a raft of benefits including death or injury while on duty, refused to pay Sankandi from its Accident Fund because he earned above N$72??????’??
