The National Art Gallery will showcase a unique variety of paintings, poetry and stone carvings of Niita Indongo tonight in an exhibition, Inhaling Heaven.
The artist spent her childhood in the former DDR and was sent back to Namibia when she was 17. It was her love for art that made her become aware and appreciate her African surrounding.
With Inhaling Heaven Niita Indongo attempts to capture her emotional impression of a stay at Grootberg Lodge, Damara Land, where she was immediately inspired by the stunning landscape and sky.
Niita Indongo conceptualised a multi-media exhibition in the form of a poem, which supports the exhibited paintings and sculptures. This integrated arts approach can be considered significant to development in today’s art.
