September is Sports Movies Month at the American Cultural Centre. Come and join us every Wednesday evening in September at 17h30 for the free screening of the films listed and described below.
The monthly book reading day will be held on Wednesday, September 12, at 09h30. The American Cultural Centre also invites you to a digital video conference on September 18 with Michael Kurtz, a production manager at the Putumayo World Music Label, who will talk to prominent figures in the making, distribution and protection of Namibian music and its artists.
The American Cultural Centre also invites the public to observe a moment of silence for the victims of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on Tuesday, September 11, 2007. The moment of silence will be followed by the screening of a documentary – which was filmed purely by coincidence – of the events as the horrific day unfolded.
Calling All Serious Musicians
Now is your chance to talk to a representative of the world music label Putumayo via digital video conference at 15h00, on Tuesday, September 18, 2007. Putumayo World Music was established in 1993 to introduce people to the music of the world’s cultures.
It is a pioneer and leader in developing the non-traditional market in America.
The digital video conference will focus on the opportunities that Putumayo can offer Namibian musicians in terms of promoting and marketing their music in the U.S.
A panel of Namibian musicians and music promoters consisting of Namibian music distributor and publisher, Paul Hubert, Universal Sounds Record Shop representative, Clive Plaatjies, well-known Namibian singer, Jackson Kaujeua, and Oruaano Artists Association President, Banana Shekupe, will discuss these options with Putumayo Production Manager, Michael Kurtz.
The monthly Book Reading Hour for pre-primary till grade four school learners will be held at 09h30 on Wednesday, September 12, 2007, in the American Cultural Centre Auditorium. Centre for Disease Control and Prevention Deputy Director, Dawn Broussard, and her husband, Jeff Jenks, will do readings, so please bring your child to this fun and stimulating event.
