The Federal Republic of Germany recently granted financial assistance in the amount of 150 000 euro (approximately N$1,4 million) to the Gobabeb Training and Research Centre via the GTZ (German Development Cooperation Agency) in Namibia. This grant is in support of the Southern African Development Community programme for the development of Gobabeb as an “SADC Centre of Excellence” for environmental training and research in drylands.
Germany has assisted the centre substantially in the past. Between 1997 and 2006, the sum of 3,3 million euro (almost N$32 million) was made available to Gobabeb.
