One of the ten finalists in the country’s beauty pageant will tomorrow take over the Miss Namibia crown from Anna Nashandi the reigning beauty queen.
The young and beautiful contestants – Ilka Adams, Laurencia Endjala, Christa Engelbrecht, Sade Gawanas, Charlene Hart, Marichen Luiperd, Natalia Mutota, Sonandre Strauss, Sonya van der Merwe and Vanessa Kahandjadjo – will take to the catwalk, where the judges will decide on who Miss Namibia 2007 will be.
The beauties will parade and be put to the test by the judges after which only one winner will be declared together with her two princesses.
“We’re really looking for a good all-rounder. Of course she has to be attractive and have a great outgoing personality, but she must also be well spoken and be in the know regarding current events. But most importantly, she must be an exceptional ambassador for the country that can represent Namibia at an international level, “said the Miss Namibia National Director Conny Maritz.”
Besides the other monetary value attached to the beauty prize, Miss Namibia 2007 will also receive a Toyota Yaris for the period of her reign.
The announcement of the 25 Namibian beauty semi-finalists took place on May 18, with the judging of these finalists conducted the following day. The 10 finalists were announced on May 21. Yesterday, the top ten had interviews with the judges. Recently local journalists and photographers were invited to a photo session where the finalists were photographed with the various sponsors backing the pageant.
The finalists were taken to Etosha National Park for a four-day shoot and were involved in intense two weeks of training for the final. This included more photos, ramp work, fittings, hairdressing and visiting sponsors, among others.
The Miss Namibia 2007 pageant was launched in April at the Windhoek Country Club, home of the glamorous event for the 12th consecutive year.
This year’s theme is ‘Women in Celebration’ in honour of all the women who are contributing to the upliftment of the poor and needy.
