Peter Katjavivi describes his new job as Namibia’s ambassador to the Federal Republic of Germany as a great joy, both in professional and personal terms.
In a recent interview, he said that as Namibia’s ambassador in Germany, he functions in a familiar environment where Namibia enjoys particular attention, and many Germans know the country.
In the interview, which took place during a brief visit home recently, he spoke about his work in Berlin and some of the objectives he is trying to achieve.
In general terms, he explained, the mission of the Namibian embassy in Germany is to further cement and deepen the strong political and economic relations between Namibia and Germany. This includes promotion of trade and investment, the expansion of cultural relations, as well as vigorously marketing Namibia in all aspects.
These activities are all undertaken in the context of the White Paper on Namibia’s Foreign Policy and Diplomacy Management, which places economic diplomacy at the top of the country’s agenda.
“As ambassadors, we see ourselves as watchdogs of our country’s vital interests abroad, both in terms of preventative and proactive demands of diplomacy,” he remarked.
The Namibian mission in Berlin continued to maintain close working relations with relevant institutions in Germany.
