Pilot Killed in Air Crash


By Michael Liswaniso OPUWO A private aircraft belonging to the Fracorino Rest Camp crashed in the Mowani Mountain Camp in the Twyfelfontein area, some 120 km west of Khorixas in the Kunene Region. The rare accident to have hit the Khorixas district happened late afternoon at around 18h00. It is alleged that the plane crashed due to engine failure. The police report that the aircraft was not registered with the aviation authority due to the fact that it was still under construction. The pilot, also a technician, was identified as Wolfgang Rapp, a Namibian citizen who is believed to have been alone in the aircraft. He was burnt beyond recognition and his remains were transported to the Khorixas state hospital mortuary. The next of kin, according to the police, have been informed, while a post-mortem examination will be conducted soon. Meanwhile, an 18-month old girl identified as Kyariri Nguejueta burned to death in a house at the Okavare village in the Omuramba area some 35 km south of Opuwo. The police say the incident happened on Sunday evening at around 19h30. It is alleged that the victim together with a friend, identified as two-year-old boy Tualikuja Katira who was severely burnt and in a critical condition in the Opuwo state hospital, were playing with matches and suddenly the house caught fire.
