By Frederick Philander WINDHOEK They simply and sentimentally call the musical show that will be staged tomorrow afternoon until late in Katutura, a trip down memory lane, The Show Stars of Yester-year Concert. “It’s a combination and fusion of music from the 70s that will capture the minds of any audience,” said committee member Usuta Imbili in an Art/Life interview this week. She and three other Namibian women are the organisers of the long-awaited musical bonanza that will explode tomorrow afternoon at 16h00 at the Sam Nujoma Stadium in Katutura. “We have managed to gather the exceptional musical prowess of some original members of Namibian bands from way back in the 70s to produce this once-in-a-lifetime entertainment opportunity to Namibian music lovers,” said Anna Black, another committee member. Members from bands such as Baronages, the Ugly Creatures, Dead Wood and Baby and Friends have been recruited to star in the show. “The yester-year band is the main act backed by Ongoro No Mundu who will spice up the show with more contemporary Namibian music ranging from jazz to any genre one can think of,” said Imbili. “The expected 5 000 crowd will be entertained by oldies and love ballets from world music icons such as the late Barry White, The Commodores, Percy Sledge and Lionel Richie. It’s a show not be missed by any Namibian music lover,” Anna Black assured readers. According to Imbili this show is not just a one-off event, but her committee will continue with other music events in future. “Prizes for best original 70s dressed couples will be handed out and the security at the event will be very strict. We want to assure those interested in joining us in the musical fun, entertainment and enjoyment of the day. Food will be sold throughout the day and a cash bar is on offer. Don’t miss it,” said. Imbili. Tomorrow’s show costs N$40. Tickets can be bought at the stadium or by calling Anna Black on 0811220946.
