Kathindi – the Shepherd of the Flock

By Wezi Tjaronda WINDHOEK Reverend Nangula Kathindi was on Sunday installed the Dean and Rector of the St George’s Cathedral of the Anglican Church. Although one of the smallest in the normal use of the Anglican Church, the Cathedral is the mother Church of the Diocese in Namibia and part of the Church of the Province of Southern Africa, of which the Rt. Reverend Nathaniel Ndaxuma Nakwatumbah is the Bishop. She was installed amid family, friends, diocesan clergy and clergy from other churches in the body of Christ and the faithful that attended the colourful ceremony at the Anglican church, at the corner of Love and Robert Mugabe Streets in Windhoek on the chilly Sunday morning. Kathindi, who has been a Reverend for the past 12 years, was appointed to serve as the Dean of the St Georges Cathedral Parish in Wind-hoek as from August 1, 2005. Kathindi took the oath, made declarations and signed documents before she knelt before Bishop Nakwatumbah who delivered documents to the Dean Designate with the words: “Receive the cure of souls which is both mine and yours, in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit. Amen.” As part of the installation, she promised to enable people of God to recognise and exercise their proper ministry, to bring the gospel of God to people who do not know Christ, to be faithful in prayer and in saying the daily offices and also to study the scriptures and read and expound to the people. Likewise, the congregation declared that with the help of God, they would hear what is preached and apply it to their daily lives, that they would come with joy and thanksgiving to take part in the Holy Eucharist, and that they would come together frequently especially on Sundays. The Bishop urged the congregation to direct their goodwill to Kathindi, who was going to preach the light of God so that people can see, walk and hear. “You have the arrow with the message of God to lead God’s herd,” said the Bishop, adding: “May the power of the Holy Spirit, which made the devil flee, dwell in you. He is sending you to do miracles because any leader sent of God was promised God’s presence.”
