SWAKOPMUND- Film Director, Philippe Talavera, will be presenting the film One Night next Thursday, here at the Alliance Française de la Côte and Meduletu Hall, Mondesa next Friday.
Dina (Jane Uiras) is caught up in a love triangle between the love of her life, Tiger (Dennis !Kharuchab – Sex and chocolate, winner Special Youth Prize, Lola Screen Film Festival 2011) and her ex, Gabriel (Norman Kapunda, Teddy Bear love, We were young, winner 14+ Award for the second-best youth film, Lola Screen Film Festival 2010).
She also needs to deal with her father (award winner David Ndjavera) who pushes her to study business administration to take over his job someday. Also starring is award-winner Lara-Lyn Ahrens as Dina’s best friend, Josef Molapong and Elise de Wee. One night originates from a story written by five talented young people: Evelina Ashipala, Billy Jagger, El-Marie Kapunda, Dennis !Kharuchab and El-Juanita Philander. It reflects on relationships, which humans embark on daily. When Tiger breaks up with Dina, she doesn’t know how to deal with her emotions. She soon becomes very depressed. Trying to help her, her best friend, Yana, doesn’t know she is about to trigger a series of events that will completely change Dina’s life.
“The film deals with issues many young Namibians are faced with,” explains director Talavera. “Relationships in the 21st century are complicated. Dina has got everything a young woman could desire - she is from a rich family, she can afford to study at Unam, she has the dream- boyfriend and an amazing best friend.
Yet, she struggles with life and choices, as any young person her age. Her dad does not understand her, she can’t stand being constantly compared to her elder brother and sister and when Gabriel, a ghost from her past, re-appears in her life, everything collapses.”
The Ombetja Yehinga Organization (OYO) aims at creating social awareness with young people for young people. As always, it works with talented young people either as script writers or actors. This year, it is proud to introduce Jane Uiras. Jane has been an active member of the Outjo youth group for the past four years, getting involved in many of OYO’s activities in the region.
“Getting involved in this project has been a lifetime experience”, enthuses Jane. “I hope I will have other opportunities to act. I really enjoyed becoming Dina”.
One Night benefits from the presence of Lara-Lyn Ahrens as Jana, Dina’s best friend. Lara-Lyn won best actress at the Film and Theatre Awards of 2010 and her characterisation of Jana in the film is faultless. Additional cast include David Ndjavera (winner best actor at the Film and Theatre Awards of 2010) as Dina’s father, Elize de Wee as her mother and veteran actor Josef Molapong as Tiger’s father.
