WINDHOEK – A 42-year-old man from Havana informal settlement was found hanging from a tree by a man who went to relieve himself in a riverbed.
His corpse was found yesterday morning.

The deceased used a plastic rope to commit suicide at Okahandja Park in the Okuryangava area.
The incident attracted a large number of onlookers from Okahandja Park as well as from nearby locations.
Residents called the police at around 09h00 and members of the police mortuary arrived at about 11h46.
When they arrived they didn’t have any equipment to cut the rope from which the dead man hung.

One of the male mortuary officers, who was also the driver of the mortuary van, asked the onlookers for a knife to cut the plastic rope for him to remove the body.
When New Era left the scene at 11h53 the corpse was still hanging from the tree.
The deceased wore Timberland boots and a white vest.

“It is very strange for him to commit suicide in Okahandja Park while he lived at Havana which is about 5 km away from here,” said an eyewitness who recognised the deceased.
One of the onlookers said he might have committed suicide at around midnight because his body was very cold.
The deceased was found with his identification documents as well as a FNB ATM card.
The victim was living together with his wife, and no one knows what the cause of the suicide is.
