When you are a high flyer who has spent 22 years as an Air Namibia flight hostess, then once you have landed you will need to have a car that is out of the ordinary.  Francis Shroeder has it – a deep metallic red new shape VW Beetle with tinted windows, black trim and great attitude which has been her driving companion for well over a decade.

With nearly 120 000 kays on the clock, in great shape, and regular services done through “no one else but Zimmerman’s Garage”, Francis tells you that she bought her ‘volla’ when the second generation Beetle first came on the scene and doesn’t get tired of the shape or performance after all this time - considering it still to be a trend setter.

“I’ve enjoyed this car from the day I bought it 12 years ago, and have looked after it like a baby – it’s a real woman’s car,” she said.

Apart from the obvious, the Beetle is a great town car, with a zippy 2-litre engine, a luxurious feel to it, and has looks that stand out in the traffic.

“Owning a VW Beetle like this is especially fun, and gives you a special feeling because of its iconic status – it is really something different and you don’t see many of them on the road,” she said.

“I’m a Volkswagen girl, having owned VW Golf, a 70’s Beetle and now this one, so I am pretty loyal to the brand.”

Zimmerman’s Garage the authorised VW dealership in Namibia, said that they sold the old Beetles in the good old days, but the “new Mexican version” has become quite a limited edition in Namibia with a little demand for these models.

According to owner Hagen Zimmerman who has spent the past 60 years working on the Volkswagen product, he claims few Beetles are sold in light of the popular range of VW vehicles such as the Polo etc,  but mentioned that they can be ordered on request.

“We currently have over 25 Beetle customers bringing their vehicle in for regular services, and the new models are high tech, which means you need the right VW technicians and the diagnostic instruments to work on them,” added Zimmerman, who remembers working on a 1949 Beetle not so long ago mentioning that their large workshop accommodates any VW make and model.

Zimmerman’s Garage is a top ranking VW dealership in Windhoek with award winning workshop, sales and after sales, having received countless international awards for customer and service excellence.
