OVITOTO - Over N$50 000 has been pledged for the upgrading of the road between Okahandja and Ovitoto to bitumen standards.
The Ovitoto Development Committee (OvDC) prompted the contributions, and pledged N$3 000 towards Phase Two of construction, which involves the upgrading of the road to bitumen standards.
The pledging took place during the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of three bridges over the Bobbejaan, Niehaus and Swakop rivers on that road on Tuesday.
Among the contributors were Information and Communication Technology Minister Joel Kaapanda, who on behalf of his family pledged N$1 500, while the Roads Authority pledged N$10 000.
The patron of the OvDC, Ernst Tjitendero, said the tarring of the road would increase the accessibility of health facilities, especially the transportation of patients to clinics by ambulances or other vehicles.
He stated that this would also increase tourist numbers to the area, and boost marketing opportunities for available products.
“We also humbly urge our government to support Phase Two, which is the continuation of Phase One we are witnessing today,” he said. – Nampa
