WINDHOEK- In association with the Goethe-Centre, the Namibian-German Foundation for Cultural Cooperation (NaDS), the University of Namibia (Unam) as well as the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD), the German Embassy Windhoek is organising a competition on language and identity.
This competition focuses on the German language and its meaning for native speakers and learners in Namibia.
People who speak more than one language add new facets to their identity and provide themselves with new opportunities.
The competition is supposed to encourage people to think about their own identity as somebody who speaks or learns German in Namibia. Furthermore, it invites all participants to show us which role the German language plays in their lives.
All those who are interested are cordially invited to use arts in order to deal with this issue. Any form of expression is allowed. You are welcome to submit pictures, paintings, collages, craftwork etc. However, you might as well present a stage performance using songs, music, theatre plays, poems and the like.
There are no limits to your imagination. The only important thing is to realize the motto of the competition, “Express yourself”, in a creative and comprehensive way.
The competition will be held under the auspices of Professor Marianne Zappen-Thomson (Unam). Everybody who lives in Namibia and is older than 16 years is allowed to take part. In the categories “visual arts” and “performing arts”, all entries have to be submitted as individual or group entries and in writing by 8 October 2012 at the latest. Please hand in your entries in German. Entries for the “visual arts” category need to be accompanied by a short, written declaration explaining what the entry is going to express.
Once a preliminary selection has been made, we will send an email to all selected participants. The event itself, the presentation of the entries and the prize-giving ceremony will be taking place on 22 November, 7.15pm in the Goethe-Centre.
An independent jury will assess the entries. The winners of the first, second and third prize will get attractive cash prizes.
