WINDHOEK - FNB Namibia says the purchase of prepaid electricity via its electronic channels has shown an exponential increase since the launch in February.
The value of electricity purchases via online banking, ATM’s and cellphone banking have increased from a mere N$117 890 to more than N$1.5 million in just seven months.

Cellphone banking is the most commonly used channel to purchase electricity.
“FNB Namibia is still the first and only bank that offers this service. We have shown tremendous growth over the past seven months and have received numerous calls from customers from all over Namibia who cannot wait to have the functionality available in their home town,” said Desery van Wyk the manager for cellphone banking.

FNB Namibia is now planning to roll out the electricity purchasing platform to purchase electricity from the regional electricity distributor companies in the Erongo, central and northern regions as well as the far northern regions. This is expected in the first quarter of next year.
